Sunday Update #5

"What I see outside the window as the patrons run to the door 5 minutes before closing."

This happened yesterday.  From September to May the library is open on Saturdays 10am to 3pm. But it never fails that someone comes in right before close. Yesterday at 2:57pm a couple of teens came in and asked to use the computers. My co-worker said, "If you can do what you need to do in 3 minutes because we're closing."
Then the guy got all bent out of shape because that wasn't enough time. Um...no. But I found a couple "Working in a library tumblrs" and they crack me up because I go through the pages and it quickly becomes yes to all! It makes me feel so much better when I have an off day or have to deal with difficult people. The sites are

Don't drink anything when checking out the sites, you may choke or spit all over the screen. Safety first, people.

Book update: This week I finally finished A Clash of Kings by George RR Martin. Holy crap that thing is a beast. I'm telling myself that it will be my last chunkster for awhile but that's a lie. Not only to I have The Complete Sherlock Holmes Vol. 1 sitting on my desk, but big books are my crack. (SH Vol. 2 is on my beside table). I also finished rereading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and read The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer.

Mara Dyer...oh my god. I texted Matt that I was going to try to read it in one sitting, (Bit more than 5 hours and I was done...huzzah!!) which baffled and impressed him. But I knew about 20 pages in that I was going to love this book. There were moments I was like "What is happening? But so awesome!!" And when I finished it, I knew that no matter what I read next it would suck in comparison.

I was so proud of myself that when I was at the library yesterday I only brought home five books. FIVE! That has to be some kind of record. I bought home:

Speaking of book club. I was unable to attend this past Wednesday because of a migraine. I was able to watch the film later in the week so I can go to the discussion this week. But I missed the book club ladies.

Blog: On the blog this week I posted the following reviews:
Anansi Boys Read Along Post 1 (spoiler alert)
The Duke and I by Julia Quinn
The King Maker's Daughter by Philippa Gregory

Other: Matt told me wonderful news this morning. It's taking him awhile to find a job that fits his degree, so while he continues to search for that kind of a job he's starting work at a store. His first day is Wednesday. He's been really stressed out with job hunting, so I'm hoping that this eases a bit of his stress. I know that a job in his field will come along but now he has something for the interim.

It's Sunday, so that means it's Masterpiece night! Woohoo!! But for the duration of today I'm going to be watching documentaries on the History Channel and reading during commercials.

Finally, this last gif is specifically for Sarah and Kristilyn!

  1. :) LOVE the gif's.

Beauty Queeeeeens! I hope you love it. And hooray for Matt getting a job until one in his field comes along!

And those Tumblrs are hilarious! I really need to explore Tumblers more...

    Have a lovely week :-)

    1. I'm starting Beauty Queens tomorrow. The main character in Halo just described her brother as "a white shirt stretched across his well-built chest"...I'm so beyond washing my hand of this one. Ew.

  2. Ha ha ... that's like me driving behind someone who doesn't get that the speed limit is totally doable in the afternoon in the middle of summer.

And I'm totally bookmarking those tumblrs! Since I'll hopefully get some shifts at the library, I'll TOTALLY GET THEM! :)

Good for you finishing A Clash of Kings! I *still* need to read that series. I say it, but there's little "doing" on my end. Meanwhile, Mara Dyer -- I totally could devour that in a day. Says a lot about my reading preferences.

    1. I'm sure you could understand most of them just from being a library patron. But once you work a few shifts definitely. It's so different. I don't really mind when people don't have their card with them as long as they know their number (but none do). It takes ages to find them in the system by name. It makes me stabby (to quote Sarah).

  3. Dracula is so so awesome, I hope you like it! And I'm going to read Interview With The Vampire too! Sometime...

Glad Matt got a job, even though it's not exactly what he wants. Still, job yay! :)

LOL library gifs! I used to work in my school library, so I know the feeling of the Meryl Streep one :)

    1. I read Dracula awhile ago but don't remember all of it so I'm excited for a reread.
Yay Matt indeed. I don't care where he works as long as he's not stressed out or as stressed out.
Working in a library is great, it's just sometimes the patrons...though a lovely older couple did come in the other day and I talked Pillars of the Earth with the husband.

  4. I got so distracted by adding you to Goodreads that I forgot to comment on this post! Firstly I know exactly what you mean about people showing up last minute, this always used to happen at the vet clinic, someone would show up just as we were closing, it was infuriating!

And I was going to warn you about Halo but I just saw your comment on Goodreads - I am not surprised. The audio book is painful :/

    1. I was so excited for Halo because it's an Aussie author and from your blog alone Aussie and NZ authors, ya especially, write pretty amazing things. Is there some kind of writing magic in the water down there? But yeah, it was just weird. Between commenting oddly on her brothers appearance and writing like readers are stupid, I was out.

Ugh last minute people are the worst. I'm so tempted to say things like "I'm glad you're a reader...now get out."
