This post covers chapter 8 to the end of Coraline. This post will contain some spoilers. You can see my post for the first half of Coraline here.
This second half of Coraline is the part that always freaks me out the most.
Not only do we find out how evil and manipulative the Other Mother/Beldam is,
the world she creates is just creepy. That part that always gets me is the
scene in the empty flat with Coraline’s Other Father. No matter how many times
I read or listen to that section, it always gives me chills.
What I really love about Coraline is how tough she is, and how great of a
“role model” she is for young girl readers. She’s a very take charge character
and doesn’t let her fears get the best of her. She does what she thinks is
right. She’s very protective of the ghost children, her parents and the
sarcastic black cat. She’s also a bit diabolical when it comes to planning how
to get rid of the Beldam for good. Part of me wants to be Coraline.
I still love Coraline’s real Father a bit more than her real Mother, he
seems more genuine and loving; a lot of his lines crack me up as well. However,
whenever Miss Spink and Miss Forcible read tea leaves I can’t help but smile.
There’s just something about those ladies.
I love reading this book or listening to the audio on a dark, cold night. It
really gets you in the Halloween spirit.

This is an AWESOME read. I think I love the audiobook more than the book itself. It's such a creepy listen! The other mother is just the SCARIEST "person" ever .. LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteI do have the audiobook as well, but usually read it if I want to get through it a bit more quickly. Also when the rats "talk" on the audio it creeps me out hardcore.
DeleteThis was a REALLY good Halloween pick. And I loved Coraline too, she was sweet but also really curious and daring. And the Other Mom was sooooooo creey. And I loved the cat!!!
DeleteYes! I wish that was a trend in books for younger readers. Most girls are jerkish boy obsessed and I hate that. I loved the cat so much and I love that he didn't have a name because it was beneath him. He was my favorite character.
