Dewey's Readathon Master Post

I love when Dewey's 24 hour read-a-thon comes along. Each time I vow that not only will I start on time, but that I will make it the entire 24 hours. Though I usually fail on both counts.

This time around I'm going to focus on YA titles. I'm going to attempt to read the following:
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
by JK RowlingDearly, Departed by Lia HabelThe Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

I'll be posting updates throughout the day on this same post.

Happy read-a-thoning everyone!

Update #1 4 hours in 1pm

I started later than I wanted to (9am) and the morning has been filled with quite a few distractions. We got news that relatives from Canada arrived today (we were originally expecting them on Tuesday). So there was some cooking and other things that had to be taken care of today.

But despite all that I did get about 150 pages left. I read the first 50 pages of Dearly, Departed and the first 100 of The Goblet of Fire. I'm hoping that this afternoon will settle and I will get at least one of these finished. At the moment I have pizza in the oven and am about to settle on the couch and really focus.
Here are my answers to the introductory questions:
1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today? – Maine
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? – I'm really excited for Dearly, Departed. It's my first proper zombie novel.
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? – Popcorn probably. I haven't made some in awhile and I miss it.
4) Tell us a little something about yourself! – I work in a library and it's the best job ever.
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? This time around I'm not going to pressure myself to read all the books on my list. I'm just going to go at my own pace and enjoy this one.

Update #2 11pm
I don't know why this post is formatting so weird. I don't really like it nor can I figure out how to fix it. Somehow everything is becoming double spaced. I don't like at all.

This readathon has so far kind of been a bust for me so far. I've only read about 200 pages total and life really got in the way today. I got a call from a friend I hadn't talked to in ages and that turned into a three hour conversation and I ended up having to bake cookies which is quite a time consuming process.

I'm feeling really bummed about how today has gone and really unmotivated. Part of me kind of just wants to go to bed, but I really want to finish one book.

  5. Hi chuck! Sorry you got hit with so many distractions today - ain't that always the way come read-a-thon time? - but I hope you had fun and read a good chunk of your books regardless. Dearly, Departed was my first real zombie novel too, and I loved every minute! Anyway, I didn't take part in the read-a-thon because I was working, but I just wanted to stop by to say CONGRATULATIONS and enjoy the rest of your Sunday! :D
